Today we’re thrilled to welcome Alanna Blackett to our pages – complete with a giveaway of her latest release to one lucky commenter!

Social Butterfly

Which social networking tool do you use the most? Why do you like it? How long have you been using it? Do you find it an effective tool for authors? How important do you think it is for authors to keep in touch with their readers? Do you use many social networking tools, or just a few carefully chosen ones? Do you dislike them? Tell us why?

Oh boy, social networking. This means we get to talk about Twitter, which is one of my, like, top three favourite things in life. I’ve been on Twitter since 2008. I have a personal account that I mostly use for saying snarky things about NBA basketball with an awesome group of bloggers and other people who say snarky things about NBA basketball. I do have a new author account, which is @AlannaBlackett. The funny thing about having a real-life Twitter with thousands of followers is how weird it is to hop over onto my author account and remember what it was like to only be talking to a few people. But you have to work up to it. As a new author, no one’s heard of me, and that’s OK. It’s more important to me that I have all my writerly stuff in one place. I get most of my cool links and fresh news from Twitter these days.

I personally think Twitter can be good for writers because the 140 characters force me to go back and remove bad-habit “junk” words like “just,” “like,” “really,” etc. Most of the time the thought is just as effective without them. I follow a lot of authors I like on Twitter. I figure, chances are if I like your voice in your writing, I’ll like your voice on Twitter. (And indeed, I have never had a bad experience meeting any of my Twitter friends in real life. I’m about 8 for 8 in Good Twitter Friend Meeting Experiences so far.) So I guess my advice is to not censor yourself too much and use your real voice. Some people will love you, some people will hate you. But they have the option of not following. So whatever. I don’t do Twitter drama. Haha.

Besides Twitter, I am on Goodreads, and I have a blog (that I should probably update more). I do have a real life Facebook, but I’m always complaining about it, so it’s not likely I’ll get an author one. So I guess I would say I choose social networking tools I know I enjoy using.

Blurb:

Riley is one of the best hackers around. She’s always kept her online identity separate from her real life… mostly because she doesn’t have much of a real life. But someone is stalking her through the network. Someone who knows about the big job she just pulled off and won’t stop till he finds out who she is.

Two years ago, CJ was a hacker at the top of his game, until he got caught. Now the prisoner of a ruthless corporation, he is forced to hunt down his former friends and colleagues. He finds himself irresistibly drawn to the woman he knows only by her alias, Samantha, as he traces her from virtual nightclubs to the dark streets of the Manhattan sprawl.

But when Riley and CJ’s relationship crosses over into real life, things get dangerous.

Excerpt

CJ grinned as she signed off. He still had the trace on her connection. She had disconnected from their chat and was logging into something that looked like…he didn’t know what, specifically. Some part of interspace. It was a server with a massive number of connections. He checked the numbers. 240,000 users were currently logged in. A city simulation? The server had a name he didn’t recognize, but that wasn’t surprising. There were so many of the things. Maybe, he thought with a sudden flash of heat, it was where she had her apartment in interspace. He wouldn’t say no to that, although it was no comparison with the real Samantha.

He followed her, connecting to the server. His vision went dark and three cycling blue lights appeared in the center. Then the area finished loading and the world sprung up around him.

Except he wasn’t in an apartment. Or a club. He didn’t know where the hell he was. Or he did, but only sort of. There was something definitely not right about it. He recognized the street signs illuminated in the pavement, and the dingy advertisements on the sides of the buildings. He recognized the damp chill in the air.

It was his street. And it had a giant robot on it.

The robot’s head whirred toward him as it identified him with a vague mechanical interest. It was at least twelve feet tall, a towering boxy thing with multiple arm cannons. Its eyes were old-fashioned LED screens that glowed yellow. It lifted one arm.

The impact slammed him across the sidewalk into the side of a building. “Get down!” someone shouted as the air exploded into rapid stuttering gunfire. He heard the sound of glass blowing out and pressed himself against the closest large object he saw. It was a set of stairs. He lifted his head, disoriented.

Wisps of blue hair stuck out from under Samantha’s bandana as she opened fire on the robot, half-crouched behind a nearby trash can. She wore some kind of dirty military pants and a grimy T-shirt with a logo he didn’t recognize on the shoulder. She’d just blown out the window of the building across the street from his. He gazed up from his hiding place against the side of a concrete stair railing and took in the detail of the street. Unbelievable. It was a near-perfect replica.

Except for the giant robot.

Samantha’s gun blasted one more time, and he heard the whine of failing electronics. There was a pop, and sparks flew out of the robot’s neck. Its yellow LED eyes flickered off, then came back on again. Samantha hit it again, this time right in the eyes. Headshot. The robot toppled to the street, its limbs screeching and creaking as they folded up on each other.

Samantha pointed her black automatic rifle into the air and surveyed the damage with a satisfied grin.

Bio

Alanna Blackett writes science fiction and fantasy with a side dish of romance. Growing up, it annoyed her that she always had to be Princess Leia when they played Star Wars, because there weren’t any other female characters. She would much rather have been Han Solo or Indiana Jones. She immediately set out to fix that through her writing. She lives in New Orleans with her husband and two cats, and has a weakness for video games, NBA basketball, and books about chicks who blow stuff up.

Steve Geoffreys ~ Cornish Cream

Prepare yourself for an erotic roller-coaster of a read from the very first chapter in the novel Cornish Cream by Steve Geoffreys. In the story a lottery winning couple, Jeff and Sarah Stevenson rent a cottage in Cornwall, England for their first anniversary and to act out their own top ten sex fantasies on each other. But, when they arrive back home in London after their debauched week away a nasty surprise drops through their letterbox. The owner of the cottage, Lord Smedley has sent them a rather large bill that will rock their perfect world if they don’t pay up. It opens a can of worms and during the drama that ensues, surprises and revelations surface that bring on a final twist.

Excerpt:

Jeff’s thumbs teased at the cork of the bottle of Tattinger Champagne. Sarah sat at the dining table with her fingers in her ears. The cork popped and narrowly missed the crystal chandelier, bounced off the high ceiling of their Georgian townhouse, and landed near to one of their original Tiffany table lamps. Sarah squealed in delight as the millions of bubbles ejaculated over the bottle’s neck and down Jeff’s hands.

‘Happy anniversary darling.’ Grinned Jeff as he filled two Champagne flutes and placed the bottle back into the solid silver ice bucket.

‘Yes, our first anniversary. What present have you got for me? You do know that it has got to be paper for a first anniversary present don’t you?’ Sarah asked as Jeff handed her the glass.

‘It is paper yes, but you will need to down that glass and remain sitting down when I give it to you.’ Jeff smirked one of his knowing smiles. Sarah frowned her usual way that she did when he said something to confuse, bewilder, or intrigue her.

‘Oh my god, it’s not a divorce petition for me to sign is it? Just because you won all that money, you want to trade me in for a much younger model don’t you?’ She asked before gulping down half the glass. Jeff laughed loudly.

‘Don’t be ridiculous. I would not trade you in for all the money in the world. You’re one in a million.’

‘One in eight million eight hundred thousand four hundred and sixty nine pounds don’t you mean?’ Sarah added.

‘Not forgetting the fifty seven pence let alone the interest that is accruing on a daily basis!’ Jeff chipped in. Sarah emptied her glass and Jeff went to top it up again.

‘Trying to get me drunk and take advantage of me are you?’ Jeff just winked and poured away.

‘Anyway, I have just emptied my glass so where is my present?’ She asked with a hiccup.

Jeff opened a drawer on the dining table where the solid silver cutlery was kept and handed a gift wrapped parcel to Sarah. She took it and felt it in a mock curiosity.

‘Mmmh let me guess, is it a book. Is it that new romance novel I mentioned a couple of weeks ago?’

‘Why don’t you open it and find out.’ Jeff told her as he topped her glass up then his own. Sarah opened it to reveal an expensive leather bound journal.

‘The first page is, well,… compelling reading.’ Jeff nodded reassuringly before taking a copious sip of Champagne. Sarah opened the cover and her eyes widened, closely followed by her jaw dropping.

‘Jeff’s top ten fantasies that he would like to do with Sarah!’ She blurted out on reading the first line at the top of the page. Jeff grinned widely as he watched her slowly read down the list and blush.

‘Phew, hot stuff! Not sure about numbers five seven and nine though. Think that I would have to be feeling very naughty to do those, or very drunk. Or maybe both very drunk and very naughty. There is one thing about your list that baffles me somewhat though?’ Sarah shrugged.

‘Oh really, so what is that then?’ Jeff enquired, rubbing his jaw line.

‘I am curious as to why you have not listed a threesome with me and another woman on your fantasy list?’ Pondered Sarah, eyes narrowing in an attempt to psyche Jeff out.

‘That would be because I know how much you hate the thought of having sex with another woman as much as you hate the thought of me having sex with another man. And besides, the threesome thing may well be most men’s top fantasy, but most men cannot even satisfy one woman, so what the hell kind of chance of fulfillment is he going to have with two women?’ Jeff stated in the manner of a philosopher.

Sarah’s face cheeks were almost crimson with a mixture of the alcohol and the arousal that the fantasy list had conjured up in her mind. But it was burning brightest from the secrets that she was currently keeping from him.

‘Since you so put it that way, yes. I can see why you left that one off your list.’ Sarah fanned her face with her hands in the manner of a TV reality star that assumed they were some sort of A-list celebrity diva.

‘So, where is your present for me then? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten our anniversary?’

‘It’s hidden upstairs actually, I’ve not had time to wrap it yet.’ Sarah told him as she stood up from the table.

‘Sounds intriguing. Are you going to go and get it for me now then? Jeff enquired with raised eyebrows.

‘Yes, wait there. Top your glass up.’ Sarah told him as she sauntered off to the stairs, her hips swaying in an overtly seductive way. Jeff watched her walk away knowing that Sarah knew he would be staring at her sexy bum.

‘Stop staring at my bum and don’t get any ideas about following me upstairs, you will spoil the surprise.’ Sarah said half over her shoulder.

‘I can’t wait for our week away in that cottage in Cornwall.’ Jeff enthused.

‘So that you can do your naughty fantasy list?’ Sarah asked as she turned to go upstairs.

‘The views are breathtaking down there, but so is your bum when you walk.’ Remarked Jeff.

‘Flattery might get you everywhere. I’ll call you up when your present is wrapped and ready.’ Sarah sexily winked as she ascended the stairs.

Jeff had a feeling that she was going to treat him to one of the fantasies off his list. Then doubt set in at the possibility of that unless she was a mind reader or had found the journal that Jeff had stashed in the wine cellar days earlier.

Estella, Vampire Queen of the Rejected,
royally invites you to join herself and her zombie lover for a fix of dark erotic tales sure to tickle your fancy and give you the shivers. But mind your manners, because she bites.
ABOUT:
Estella  is better known as the Vampire  Queen of the Rejected due to her major Haversham complex. Dumped at the altar, she’s Dracula’s rejected bride. And boy does she harp on it–still wears her Victorian wedding dress, moth holes and all.
Lucy Rot  was a  sweet girl who had a rather bad experience with magic. Now she’s a zombie and Estella’s lover and lacky.
Together, they lure the unsuspecting into their dark basement for a fix of darkly erotic tales…and dinner! And quite often, tea and scones are involved.

Think story within a story. Great expectations mashed with Tales from the Crypt and Red Shoe Diaries.

TALES FROM THE  COFFIN BOOK ONE,  STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL, RELEASES 22nd MAY  in most ebook retailers.

“Fancy bursting into my boudoir and expecting me to entertain on demand. The cheek of it. You people have no manners.” Estella puffed her raspberry-red hair into something that resembled an up-do and readjusted her breasts, shoving her plump flesh back into her once-upon-a-time-white corset. “I know. The wordis out. I give great story. I do understand. You’re excited, who wouldn’t be? I amrather marvelous, if I do say so myself.“In my day, though, the men held doors open for ladies, and the ladies tiltedtheir necks to offer supper. Oh, no need to wrap that sweater farther up yourjugular, dear, I’ve already eaten, so I’m not hungry…at the moment.” Estellastretched her arms out, licked her canines, and hoisted her moth-hole-riddenskirt to expose her alabaster thighs decorated with stockings laddered at theknees and splattered with fresh blood. “I can’t vouch for Lucy, though. She’salways hungry, aren’t you my little Deady Bear.”
BLURB:
Estella, Vampire Queen of the Rejected, is sick of men. Or so she would have you think. Ditched at the altar by Dracula himself, she’d rather spend her days with what she now believes to be the more faithful gender. Plagued by a Haversham complex, she gets her kicks by luring prey into her decrepit house with promises of erotic tales…but mind your manners, and fingers, because she bites.
Lucy Rotterdayne—a zombie better known as Lucy Rot—is Estella’s sometimes-faithful subject and lover. Although why she hangs around to be ridiculed and taunted by a bitter vampire, she has no idea. Perhaps the answer is rooted the story of how she was zombified by a doctor who is simply masterful with his hands? For adult audiences only.

Giving It Up For Lent

A Beginner’s Guide To Tease And Denial.

Lent is upon us and having used up the last reserves of fats and meats on Shrove Tuesday, good Christians are fasting and turning their backs on luxuries in the name of penitence. Self-denial during lent seems to have transcended the Christian faith and become a cultural period of moderation, inspiring people to give up vices which may be bad for them in excess, such as chocolate or alcohol. The voluntary denial of pleasure seems to be ingrained in human behaviour, people stick to bizarrely restrictive diets when trying to lose weight, when merely cutting down on calories and going for a jog in the morning would achieve more or less that same result. It is as if we feel the self-imposed, often fairly torturous (remember the cabbage soup diet anyone?) limitations will somehow make up for having over indulged in the first place and magically alter the laws of biology so that the excess weight will be cancelled out by the misery.

Perhaps in some cases people get a kick out of self-denial too, enjoying the victory of willpower over temptation, having the chance to feel good about themselves having given up sweeties for 40 days, and maybe a little justified when they pig out on Easter eggs as soon as lent is over. Delayed satisfaction can be a pleasure in itself, the first glass of wine after 40 days abstinence is always going to hold a higher value and therefore be perceived as more pleasurable than the glass of wine had with dinner every day for the rest of the year. People like to feel they have earned something, be it the Friday evening pint after a hard working week or the huge Sunday roast after a period of dieting, the pleasure is always going to be greater for the perception of it being a ‘reward’.

It comes as no surprise then that people have managed to erotize denial. At first it seems like a bizarre concept, to gain sexual pleasure from the denial or restriction of sexual pleasure. It looks like an entirely counterproductive exercise, however it is a surprisingly common fetish, enjoyed by women and men of all persuasions. Denial is such a popular sexual theme in fact that there is a whole range of toys and devices designed to help people keep their partner from touching where they have been told not to, many selling for upwards of £100. There are multiple websites devoted entirely to the discussion of sexual denial and ‘key-holding’- where someone keeps the key to another person’s locked chastity device to prevent them taking it off without permission and this ‘service’ is popular with clients of professional dominatrices as well as between lovers.

Erotic sexual control takes place in many ways. Some people like to play with ‘tease and denial’ or ‘tie and tease’ in which one partner is deliberately turned on, touched, stroked and tormented, sometimes while restrained, but denied the ultimate release until the ‘dominant’ partner decides orgasm has been delayed long enough. This is perhaps the easiest aspect of denial to understand, there is pleasure to be had in the torment, a bit like extended foreplay. The ‘Dominant’ partner pays a lot of attention to the ‘submissive’ partner, spending a lot of time arousing them, turning them on. If this foreplay goes on a little longer than is comfortable it just adds to the pleasure when it comes. Being kept on the edge of orgasm for a period of time can intensify the sensation of orgasm when it does happen. The waiting, and perhaps begging and pleading can make the coveted release that much sweeter.

Guest Interview ~ Layna Pimentel

Today we’re thrilled to introduce you to Layna Pimentel, here to share about her writing life and give us a peek into one of her works in progress!

Why don’t you start by telling us about yourself (Where are you from? What do you write/do in the publishing world? What do you do when you’re not writing — your “day” job, hobbies, obsessions, etc.?) Thank you for having me over, Adriana. I’m originally from Toronto, Ontario, but have since relocated to a small city bordering the upper peninsula of Michigan with my husband and two daughters. During the day I work in the telecommunications industry, which satisfies the geeky side of me. In my spare time when I find some, I collect tarot, gargoyles, gardening and researching new ideas for stories.

If you were stranded on a desert island with only five books and five CDs, what would they be? (We’ll just imagine you can play the CDs – after all, this is fiction!) Be prepared to be shocked. I listen to a wide variety of music. Sarah Brightman – Symphony, Fleetwood Mac – The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac, The Mediaeval Baebes – Mirabilis, Type O Negative – October Rust,  Jesse Cook – Free Fall. As for books, here would be my choices: The Wedding – Julie Garwood, When Strangers Marry – Lisa Kleypas, Bitten – Kelly Armstrong, The Duke – Gaelen Foley, The Chief – Monica McCarty.

Do you read primarily print books, ebooks, or both? I read a combination of the two. Most of my historical novels are in paperback. As for my erotica/erotic romance collection, I prefer to keep those in ebook format, away from prying eyes (my daughters). lol

Tell us about your writing: How long have you been writing? What genre(s) do you write in? What have you written (short stories, novels, etc.)? What works are currently for sale? Where?  I’ve been writing on and off since high school, but professionally for three years. I write paranormal romance, but I’ve dabbled with some sci/fi and contemporary. I have a few completed short stories, with one out on submission. Aside from that, I have one novella and novel in the works.

What made you decide to write? My obsession started only as way to relieve stress. Who knew it would eventually become an addiction/way of life.

What made you chose to write your genre in particular? Is there any other genre you’d like to write? And if so, why? I have to admit, I think the genre picked me. I love anything to do with vampires, ghosts, weres and demons. So why not? Now that I’ve built some confidence with my writing I’ve decided to try my hand at historical and contemporary erotica. They’ve always been favorites.

Are you a plotter or a pantser? I’m a little of both. Goodness knows though, no matter how many times I try and stick to a plan, things always change.

How do you get ideas for your stories? What inspires you? For the most part music plays a huge influence in what I write. When I’m in a classical mood, I write historical pieces, rock and ambient music inspire my paranormal and contemporary pieces.

Which comes first when you’re starting to write a new story: character, setting, plot, or theme? For me a character is what drives a new story. Nothing beats having fresh meat to work with. It’s those first moments with your characters that make it, or break it with the plot.

Any advice for those who want to write? This is going to sound cheesy but the only advice I can offer is to remember the three p’s. Patience, perseverance, pride. Writing doesn’t happen overnight, and neither does becoming the next hot release on the NYT bestsellers list. Take it one step at a time. The experience is humbling.

Perseverance should be that nagging devil on your shoulder, pushing you on to prove everyone wrong. Only you can put your ideas on paper, and only you can prove to the world your characters are worthy. So don’t give up. You’re the only person in-charge of your dreams.

While pride can have a negative definition, be sure that your work is the best it can be before you submit. You’ll save yourself a sh*t load of embarrassment, if find yourself a compatible critique group/partner to work with.

Is there a way for fans and others to contact you? Absolutely. You can find me at:

Tell us about your work – we’d love an excerpt, too! Here’s a sneak peek into a little something I’m working on right now. This excerpt is from Crushed Velvet, my contemporary erotic novella with some D/S elements.

EXCERPT

Brent gazed into her eyes, hoping she wanted him as bad as he did her.

“Tell me sweetheart, has there been anyone else since your husband passed?”

She studied him as if discerning whether it was safe to let the truth out. And what was the truth? Had she been with others, or had she found solace in being celibate? He waited for what seemed an eternity for her response when she finally shook her head. A subtle but noticeable blush swept across her cheeks, and she shook her head while cupping the bulge in his leather pants. Her response shook him to the core.

How was it possible for her to have gone so long without being kissed, loved by another man? Yes, she would have required time to mourn, but to isolate herself from human touch was unhealthy. Everyone had needs, and hers were no different from anyone else. He would have died if he’d gone without sex for such an extended time. The past three days he’d longed for her had been hard enough. Mental images of spanking her perfect ass, binding her to his bed and driving himself, hard and deep, tortured him. His throbbing cock would have to wait. He wanted to remind her of the simple pleasure life had to offer. Right now, he wanted her to need him.

Desire coursed through his veins. He slid his hands up her toned thighs, lifting the hem of her dress, until he cupped the globes of her ass. Understanding his queue, she wrapped her arms around his neck. He backed her into the draped corner across the lounge, not caring whether they were in public or not. They were in Crushed Velvet, and the likelihood of the patrons complaining was nil. He’d have her more focused on every stroke of his fingers sliding in and out, and every tweak of her sweet and swollen clit, instead of entertaining any of the clubs voyeurs. Not only would he reacquaint her with the sensations a man could bring her, but he would give her a lesson in submission.

Love It or Leave It

Today we’re thrilled to welcome our friend, Beth Wylde, as part of the blog tour for D. l. King’s new anthology, The Harder She Comes. Take it away, Beth!

Love It or Leave It

(The joys of writing erotica)

Beth Wylde

www.bethwylde.com

Hi. My name is Beth Wylde and I write lesbian erotica! My stories feature graphic sexual descriptions between consenting adults of various kinks, colors, genders and orientations.

There, I said it. I meant it, too.

Now that may sound like the introduction for a twelve step program but I can promise you it isn’t intended to be. Group meetings are for people who want to give their habit up. I’m just fine with what I do. I’m not ashamed of what I like and I’m not doing it for fame or fortune. (If I was, I definitely wouldn’t be writing GLBT erotica. I’d have picked something a lot more mainstream. LOL)

If writing smut is an addiction, I’m definitely not looking for a cure. I’m proud to be an author of kinky, naughty, graphic, girl on girl sex. When writing legitimate sex scenes between consenting adults becomes a crime I’ll gladly bend over and assume the position. Someone remember the handcuffs please!

When I first got the acceptance for my story, Born to Ride, in DL King’s The Harder She Comes anthology, I let loose with a shout so loud I’m sure people in foreign countries heard me.

I’d been trying to get a story in a Cleis antho for quite some time, but what I was writing just wasn’t clicking with the calls or the editors. My rejection emails were pleasant, telling me the stories I sent in were well written and extremely HOT, but they just didn’t fit in with the other submissions. I knew what the problem was but I had no clue how to fix it.

I was trying to mold my stories to fit the submission calls instead of writing a story from the heart. I write erotica because I enjoy it. I put a piece of my heart and soul into every tale I type. There’s just something different that shines through when a storyline is based on something the author is passionate about instead of the essay feeling you get when you try to force out a story based on a subject you’re given. When I saw DL King’s butch/femme call I knew fate had finally shined on me. I didn’t have to tailor a story to a sub call, there was a sub call tailored to my story.

Writing about sexy femmes and hot, muscular butches getting horizontal and vertical and kinky, or any combination of the above, is something of an obsession of mine. There’s just something about a strong strapping butch showing her femme lots of love and affection that gets my juices flowing. No pun intended.

And if the butch is inclined to get a bit rough and introduce some off the wall interests too? Well that’s even better. I have a kinky streak that’s rather wide and still developing so I like exploring new territory.

That’s another fun thing I often included in my writing. Though my stories are published as fiction, and a lot of what I write comes directly from my twisted imagination, quite often my storylines originate from real life events. Readers will always find a bit of reality thrown in. I love it when everyday occurrences find a home in one of my books. It makes the characters come alive for me and I believe it makes the story better for readers too.

You can tell the difference right away between a sex scene someone is trying to force their way through and something taking place on the page that really turns the author on. I think writing about sex should get the author all hot and bothered. I wouldn’t do it if it didn’t. Writing action scenes should get you pumped up, sad stories should make you cry and good erotica should leave you wet and panting.

Lately I’ve become a bit like Pavlov’s dog. Just sitting in my computer chair and hearing the sound of my comp roaring to life can get me aroused. It makes getting into the mood to write something sexy so much easier, but it’s been hell on my budget. Computer chairs don’t seem to hold up as well as they once did. (I’ll leave those details to your imagination.)

The day I stop getting turned on is the day I stop writing erotica. Until then I’ll leave you, the reader, to guess what’s real and what isn’t.

For a peek inside my mind and my fetish with motorcycle riding butches, all you have to do is pick up a copy of The Harder She Comes.

Happy reading!

Beth

Lapiz Lazuli

The day’s first customers were a pair of forty-something women, sisters from the look of them, one heading for the airport after a visit—you can always tell out-of-towners by their clothes. I was still pinning on my ‘Caroline’ badge when they walked in. Nobody calls me Caroline but it’s company policy to have full names on badges—I’m Carrie to my friends, I made their skinny macchiatos and half-listened in to them as I continued setting the counter up for the commuter rush.
“It was lovely to see you,” said the one with the city clothes. “But it will be nice to have the place to ourselves again.”
Out-of-town sister scowled. “I didn’t realise I was such a bad guest.”
“Honey, you’re not. But tonight, me and Tom … well, we want our privacy.” Town-sister played with a chunky lapis lazuli and silver ring on a chain around her neck. She looked good for her age, and happy with it.
Out-of-town smiled. “After six years, are you two still romping?”
“Six years last month and still spending as much time in bed as out of it. Look what he gave me for our anniversary.” Town sister held out the ring.
“Very … pretty.”
I could tell out-of-town was as unimpressed as me. Cheap gift or what?
“The chain’s platinum,” said townie, looking smug. “But the ring … now that’s the best gift I’ve ever had.”
She so wanted her sister to ask why, and I so wanted to hear the answer, that I nearly asked her myself.
“Why?” said out-of-town.
“Well …” town-girl leaned over the table and I had to strain my ears to hear. “I wouldn’t tell anybody else this, but I’ve always told you everything … I like a little pain with my pleasure. Know what I mean?”
Out-of-town looked puzzled, but I knew what she meant, did I ever!
“You know!” Town-sister blushed. “A little slap, a little bite, something to push you over the edge into …” She put her hand on her chest, fingers splayed, and threw her head back, panting. It was a pretty good impression of orgasm I’ll admit – very When Harry Met Sally. Now her sister blushed and laughed.
Town sister continued, “Well Tom doesn’t like to hurt me, but he sure likes to make me happy, that kind of happy. So this ring, see, with all its bumps and lumps? Well when I wear it around my neck, Tom knows that the same evening I’m going to slide it onto his finger and he’s going to press it against my …” she paused and lowered her voice even more. “… my love button, when we make love.”
Love button! It was all I could do not to laugh out loud. Did people still talk like that? But I looked at that ring, with its deep blue knobbly surface and imagined how cold it must be, and how hard, and my knees became so weak I had to hang on to the counter.
The sisters left, chatting and laughing, and the morning coffee addicts began to roll in, but I didn’t forget what I’d heard.
That weekend I took Doug shopping at the Flea Market.
“What are we doing here, Carrie?” he asked, looking at the stalls. But I’d already seen what I wanted on a table laden with semi-precious stones and costume jewellery. A big ring, with a greeny-grey, nubby, softly-contoured stone that the seller told me was moss agate. It fit Doug’s middle finger perfectly.

Guest ~ Kerrianne Coombes

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Kerrianne Coombes, here to share her steamy new release, Beauty and the Beast!

Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Adriana.

I am so happy to be here to talk about my new release, Beauty and the Beast—The Demon Tales book 1. I just loved writing this book, and I cant quite believe that the time has come where I can share it with you all! Happy wiggle

I picked out a couple of lines today that I think are really poignant within the story, and I want to share them with you, and then I will give my reasons as to why I picked them.

“I don’t want to go home.” She spoke on a small voice, her tone stifled by the warring thoughts inside her head.

“Well, where do you want to go?”

Cally looked up and found herself trapped again by his stare—a butterfly pinned on a collectors’ board. Cally shrugged,

This moment in the book is very important to both Cally and Brigg. They are in this situation neither of them can control. Their heads are full of worry, but there is this undercurrent of passion brewing. This scene is the first time both of them feel a little off kilter. Brigg is a strong, bitter, hard faced demon. And Cally is gentle and shielded from life.

This moment is electric and sexy—even though neither of them can work out why. For me, this was the moment I realized just how explosive these two would be together.

BLURB

When Princess Callindra of Tempath, wakes up hog-tied and bruised in the bowels of hell, she realizes that her plan to escape her up-coming marriage has gone horribly wrong. Her only hope of escape comes in the form of Brigg, cursed Rain Demon and bitter, human hating bastard. But beggars can’t be choosers.

When Brigg finds himself in possession of a human and a horde of angry demons desperate to get her back, he flees. When he realizes that she is the daughter of the witch that cursed him and his family, he believes that he has finally got the opportunity he has been hoping for. The only thing he must decide now is what is more important to him, the reversal of the curse, or revenge?

Neither one are prepared for the flame that ignites between them. But will the spark be enough to break to the curse that holds them apart?

EXCERPT

Brigg walked back to the castle and opened the heavy wooden door. He was utterly shattered. His muscles burned from running but his mind was still filled with Cally. No matter how hard or fast he had run, he couldn’t clear her from his thoughts. He had waited until he was sure she was asleep before he came back.

What was he going to do tomorrow? Lust was so heavy in his body, it burned and urged him—even when she was nowhere near.

The moment his feet set down in the hallway, Brigg’s attention was drawn to the library. A dull, but cozy light shone out from the gap around the door and Cally’s scent hit him hard. She was still up? Can’t a demon catch a break?  His feet took him to the library door with no conscious thought other than…

Mine.

His heart-rate picked up and throbbed in his ears. He grabbed the door handle and yanked the heavy dark oak back. Cally sat in the middle of the room on a large leather chair, on her lap sat a big, leather-bound book. Clearly startled by his entrance, she jumped a little.

“Brigg!” Her eyes wide, she watched him as he stood in the doorway. He was unable to move, struck dumb by the image she made sitting the chair, holding the big book—looking all sleepy and sweet. “Are you ok?” She frowned and then set the book aside. She dropped her elegant legs to the floor and stood up. She was wearing his shirt, the one that he had loaned to her, but she no longer had the baggy trousers on—and Brigg couldn’t look away from the creamy flesh  on display.

She had beautiful, shapely, feminine legs, and as she moved closer, he could see that her skin was smooth. Fuck! He wanted to taste her. His head pounded and his chest drew tight. She was a vision, an image plucked right from his dreams. Many a time—before the curse—he had dreamed of such a beauty being his. She would look at him with a soft expression, just as Cally did right now. And he would take her in all the ways he craved. But he was no longer that young Rain Demon, the young demon with smooth skin and a face as human as hers. He was a beast, an ugly monster who didn’t deserve the look of interest Cally was flashing right now. He let out a low growl. Cally stopped moving, her eyes flaring wide.

That’s it, human, be scared of the Beast.

“What are you doing awake?” The growl still sat in his voice when he spoke, and he wasn’t surprised to see Cally swallow visibly.

“I-I couldn’t sleep.” She took another slow step in Briggs direction, all the while she watched him as if he might run, or attack. Brigg stayed perfectly still, aware that the moment he allowed his body to move, it would go in her direction. Everything inside him homed in on the Princess. The Beast, the Rain Demon—it all focused on Cally and her bare flesh and bright eyes. The closer she got, the harder his beast was to control.

“Stop, Human.”

Interview ~ K. D. Grace

Today we’re excited to welcome K. D. Grace to our pages! She’s set her most recent novel in one of my all-time fave places, England’s Lake District, and populated it with ghosts and demons and witches – not to mention steamy erotic scenes.

To enter for our April drawing for a $10 ARE Gift Certificate, subscribe to our Newsletter and leave a comment.

Without further ado, here’s K.D.!

Why don’t you start by telling us about yourself (Where are you from? What do you write/do in the publishing world? What do you do when you’re not writing — your “day” job, hobbies, obsessions, etc.?) I live in South England with my husband. I write erotic romance, grow vegetables and walk miles and miles for inspiration.  Wow! I just answered all the questions in one sentence. I love to walk, and I love to grow my own vegetables. My husband and I just got an allotment after three years on the waiting list, so now we have a half an acre to grow vegetables in. So much to grow, so little time. We walk. We walk lots. I walk my stories and find that gardening and walking are the two fastest ways to inspiration. Though ironing works too, it’s not nearly as much fun.

Do you read primarily print books, ebooks, or both?  I read both, but I read more ebooks these days just because I can take more to read with me when I travel, and that saves the dilemma on just what books to take. Also it lightens the load considerably.

Do you own an ereader? Why or why not? If so, what’s on it? Yep, I have a Kindle, and I love it. It’s just so convenient. I love that I can have a whole library with me for less than the weight of one book. I keep whatever erotic novels I have queued up to read. I have several romances by Nora Roberts. I have Flannigan’s Run, I have God’s Behaving Badly, I have Susie Bright’s Big Sex Little Death, I have The Story of O. LOTS of good stuff.

Tell us one thing about yourself people would be surprised to learn. I’m actually a very shy introvert. People laugh at me when I tell them that, but it’s the god’s-honest truth. Since the publication of my first novel, The Initiation of Ms Holly, I’ve had to learn to promote my brand, so I’ve lived outside my comfort zone a good bit of the time. I’m getting more used to being in extroverted situations, but it’s still exhausting.

Tell us about your writing: How long have you been writing? What genre(s) do you write in? What have you written (short stories, novels, etc.)? What works are currently for sale? Where?  I’ve written for as long as I can remember. It’s always been my favourite thing to do. I can’t imagine not doing it. I’ve written in lots of genres, but I’ve published in erotic romance. I fell into it by accident and stayed because I love it. I’ve written lots of short stories, published by Xcite Books, Mischief, Cleis Press, Mammoth Books, Ravenous Romance, Sweetmeats Press and lots of others. I have three novels out now with Xcite Press. Two, The Initiation of Ms Holly and The Pet Shop, are contemporary erotic romance, and my latest novel, Body Temperature and Rising, is the first in a paranormal erotic trilogy set in the Lake District. I’m thrilled with the trilogy, as the Lake District is one of my favourite places on the planet, and a place that really lends itself to ghosts and witches.

I’ve also just released two novellas, Migrations, with Xcite Books’ new Secret Library Series, which I’m really excited about. And my ‘garden porn novella,’ Surrogates, with Mischief Books. I’m really excited about both.  All of my works are available on Amazon and lots of other cool places. I’ll give buy links at the end of the interview.

What made you decide to write? It wasn’t really a decision. I’ve never not written. I can’t imagine not writing. What made me decide to seriously pursue writing as a career, however, was waking up one morning and realizing that really, I wasn’t fit to do anything else. I’d never wanted to do anything else, and I sure as hell wasn’t getting any younger!

What made you chose to write erotic literature in particular? Is there any other genre you’d like to write? And if so, why? As I said, I fell into it sort of by accident. I’ve always been able to write sex scenes easily, so when the now defunct UK magazine, Scarlet, ran their ‘Cliterature’ section, I thought, ‘I can do that,’ so I sent off a story and they published it. From there it was almost like an avalanche of opportunities. I found that I was really good at it and that I really liked it.

I’d like to write fantasy, and romance, both of which I’m working on at the moment.

What do you like most about writing? Least? There are so many things I like about writing. But I think what I love most is that when I’m writing, I’m god. I create worlds, I create characters and I turn them loose and see what happens, and wow! It’s always such a surprise what my characters do, and how they get from the beginning of a story to the end. I love that, as a writer, I’m totally self-entertaining. I’m never bored, and I’m always excited to see what happens next.

What I like least is that I can only write so fast. I’m pretty prolific, but I have so many stories in my head, I’ll have to live to be at least a hundred and fifty to get them all out. But then there are always new ones coming into my mind every day, so bottom line, I hate that so much of what I want to write will never happen cuz I just won’t live that long.

Are you a plotter or a pantser? A bit of both. I always get the idea in my head, go for a long walk and put a very loose chapter by chapter synopsis together, then I just write. If I stray from the synopsis, no biggie. It’s like having a map, but deciding to take the scenic route every once in a while.

Which comes first when you’re starting to write a new story: character, setting, plot, or theme? Plot usually comes first. I usually find myself with some intriguing ‘what if’ Scenario, then I’m off and writing.

Any advice for those who want to write? DON’T GIVE UP! Just write. Keep writing. Write all the time. When you’re not writing, think about writing, dream about writing, scheme about writing. Then keep writing. The hardest bit is getting that first story published, and it’s the people who don’t give up who get published.  All the while you’re writing, you’re honing and polishing your craft, and THAT’S what’ll get you there!

What’s the most useful book on writing you’ve ever read? Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg, gave me the courage just to get the words down on paper. I’d recommend it for courage.  For craft, I’d recommend  Self Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King. It’s by far the best book I’ve ever read on the nuts and bolts of writing. I reread it periodically.

What’s the sexiest feature on a man to you? And on a woman? Why? I like nice pecs — on men AND womenJ I’m not sure why, maybe it’s because it’s such a lovely place to lay one’s head.

What’s your earliest childhood memory?I remember my dad taking me to the playground when I was a very young child and pushing me on the swing. I loved that.

Lakeland Heatwave Book 1:
Body Temperature and Rising

Blurb:

American transplant to the Lake District, MARIE WARREN, didn’t know she could unleash demons and enflesh ghosts until a voyeuristic encounter on the fells ends in sex with the charming ghost, ANDERSON, and night visits from a demon. To help her cope with her embarrassing and dangerous new abilities, Anderson brings her to the ELEMENTALS, a coven of witches who practice rare sex magic that temporarily allows needy ghosts access to the pleasures of the flesh.

DEACON, the demon Marie has unleashed, holds an ancient grudge against TARA STONE, coven high priestess, and will stop at nothing to destroy all she holds dear. Marie and her landlord, the reluctant young farmer, TIM MERIWETHER, are at the top of his list. Marie and Tim must learn to wield coven magic and the numinous power of their lust to stop Deacon’s bloody rampage before the coven is torn apart and more innocent people die.

Excerpt:

The image of a dark figure approaching her through the fog tightened her belly and her nipples, and yet at the same time sent shards of ice down her back. It was a dream, she told herself. Surely it had to be, as she gathered herself to run.

It was a gentle touch of her arm that woke her with a start, and she looked up into the dark eyes of Anderson. ‘Come with me, out of the rain.’ He offered her his hand and helped her to her feet. She was amazed to find that he was still in the black suit, no anorak, no water proofs, no proper walking boots.

‘I lost my compass,’ she said.

‘I’m very sorry to hear that,’ he replied.

Almost before she knew it they were descending. ‘Don’t worry,’ he spoke close to Marie’s ear. ‘I know the fells like I’ve lived here forever.’ Once we get to Grange, Tara will be waiting for us.’

He made no attempt to explain who Tara was, nor did he introduce himself. That was her first clue that he might have been aware of her voyeuristic escapade.

‘We’ll be down before you know it,’ he added, turning his face into the storm.

But they weren’t. The weather worsened to a downpour. Bent double in the wind, Marie was soaked to the skin and shivering by the time Anderson pulled her into a cave that she hadn’t even seen until they were safe inside.

‘We’ll wait it out here,’ he said. He offered her a smile and gestured around the cave. ‘There are lots of caves and quarries around the Lake district. Some are fenced off for the protection of curious tourists, and others, like this one, most people don’t know about.’

‘And your girl friend, won’t she be worried?’

The tolerant smile he offered made her aware of her mistake. ‘Tara knows what I would do in such weather.’ Then he added, ‘Though she’s very dear to me, Tara’s not my girlfriend.’

Before she could say anything he chuckled softly. ‘I know that you saw us together, and there’s no need to apologize. Neither of us was upset that you enjoyed our love making. In fact we rather hoped it would please you. Besides one must certainly expect such encounters when one chooses the middle of a well-traveled path for a rendezvous. Now remove your shirt for me, please.’

When she balked, he added. ‘You’re cold and wet. I only wish to make you more comfortable and prevent you catching your death.’ He had already shed his jacket and handed it to her. She was astonished to find it completely dry. ‘You may wear this.’
