What do We Tweet?

#Health #Boomers #Pride #Polyamory #SexPositivity

Are you getting the drift? My husband and I write erotic romance together under our pen name, Adriana Kraft. Yes, we are Baby Boomers working hard to stay healthy. Yes, we support Pride, polyamory, and sex positivity. I’ll start from the back of the list.

Here’s what sex positivity means to us: There are three criteria for judging any sexual encounter among adults:

One: consent of all involved parties, at every step of the process.

Two: Pleasure for the involved parties (however they define pleasure).

Three: it contributes to the well-being of the involved parties.

For us, this means things like no slut shaming, such as we encountered in some reviews of our erotic romance The Best Man. Yes, Kitty (our heroine) is a slut. Is that wrong? No. Does it bring her pleasure and contribute to her well-being? Sometimes – and when it doesn’t, those consequences force her to grow and figure out what she really wants. We think that stands for itself. A good read on this topic is The Ethical Slut, by Janet Hardy and Dossie Easton.

Working backwards: Polyamory (and multiple partners, whether or not all parties are in love) follows logically from sex positivity. None of us can dictate who will fall in love or even who “ought” to fall in love. Perhaps the most important line in our bio is “we believe in happy endings for all who fall in love, whatever their gender, sexual orientation or numerical combination.” We write fictional stories that adhere to these values, and those are also the values we apply in real life. Tristan Taormino has written a thoughtful book about polyamory that we highly recommend: Opening Up

Pride. Not just because we believe it is right and that it follows logically from the above values, but because both our extended family and our friendship network are filled with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals, all of whom we love deeply and believe deserve happiness and fulfillment in love.

Boomers – that cohort born between 1946 and 1964. This year, Baby Boomers are between the ages of 59 and 77, and no, we’re not among the youngest of those. Our stories often feature main characters who are in their fifties and beyond, though we also love writing younger characters. True love and satisfying erotic encounters can happen at any age and are always to be celebrated, including in erotic romance. Joan Price, an advocate for ageless sexuality, has a delightful collection of erotic stories entitled Ageless Erotica.

Health, without which none of the above would be possible. Maintaining health becomes increasingly challenging as we age, and it is our most important value. We work out. We read up on brain health, nutrition, strength training, aerobic exercise, and stress reduction. We incorporate as much of this information as we can into our daily routines, and we are each other’s cheerleader and workout buddy to keep ourselves on track.

If you are a blogger focused on any of these topics, we’d love to invite you to our pages. If you are a reader who shares our interests, naturally we hope you’ll check out our books at this LINK.

A Reader Makes our Day!

Just had to share – a reader sent us these words after finishing the ARC of our upcoming release, The Reunion.

It was HOT!!!!!  I like the graphic sex…  I see books as movies in my head, so when you describe what is happening between them I can see it and feel it happening to me. I identified very strongly with Sarah.  I only wish I had her courage.  So if you ever question that your books have too much sex, don’t.  As far as I’m concerned you can never have too much sex in a book.  You write great sex.  I wish every writer did as well.  Thank you for that, and for not being afraid to show the joy of sex in all its positions and combinations. Sheila

I think maybe that’s a keeper…

Ten more days until The Reunion’s release! Watch this space for details on how to get it free at Amazon!

Free FRI-SAT The Best Man ~ Download if you Dare

Five Stars? One Star? Smoking hot? Sleazy? All of the above? Kitty Paige and Jared Jacobs would embrace the entire spectrum of reader reviews and laugh all the way to their next hot scene, and they’d hold nothing back when they got there.

The Best Man is free at Amazon today and tomorrow – but don’t download this book unless you’re ready for some edgy characters who enjoy things like man-sandwiches, ménage, sex buddies, scarf play and polyamory, to mention a few.

Romance with two people who only ever have sex with each other? We like that too, and we’ve got some coming out later this year, but this isn’t one of them. Here’s the blurb, and below that, a sampling of reader reactions, pro and con.

The Best ManBLURB

Bad boy meets bad girl. Is there anything more?

Passionate, hard working and every inch a business woman, Chicago realtor Kitty Paige likes her sex raw and edgy, and sees no reason to limit herself to just one man. Never married and not quite forty, the striking blonde has successfully raised her daughter, Susan, and is already pushing her new-found freedom to the limits.

Wealthy commodities middle-man and race horse owner Jared Jacobs is father of the best man at Susan’s wedding. He is smitten by the vision in yellow who exudes sex as she escorts her daughter down the aisle. Also single, the handsome mustached California ranch owner with mischievous eyes views his sex life as a series of splendid love affairs, and sets out to make Kitty next on the list.

Together and apart, their chemistry is explosive, and their sparkling repartee and steamy sex catch both partners by surprise. Jared is first to recognize he’s fallen in love. When Kitty panics, can Jared finesse his every move and reel her in?

REVIEW SNIPPETS

Loved it Review quotes

Kitty and Jared are my new favorite characters. I love this book. It kept me on edge because Kitty was so unpredictable, which gave this story its twist and turns.

Trying to describe this book so that the review will be allowed, very hard to do thinking along the lines of fifty shades of grey but on a whole different level, throw in a cowboy and boom. Loved this steamy story will definitely read more from this author.

Hated it review quotes

… quite disturbing. I wasn’t upset about the son mentioned in the summary. I’m far from a prude, but I felt like I needed a cheat sheet to remember all the casual sex buddies.

… the characters in The Best Man need to get STD tests right away. I received this for free and I’m very glad because I would be really upset if I had spent money for it.

Where should you buy those hot #erotic books?

Perhaps I should have titled this blog “Censorship, Take 2.” Or “Take 999,” since it does seem to be going on forever.

I was already aware as an LGBT author that when readers do a search, Amazon filters out a number of terms related to non-het orientations, making it difficult if not impossible for readers to find many of those books using search terms unless they already have a specific title or author. But I did not know (and am indebted to Marlene Sexton’s recent BLOG) that it also does so with many terms related to erotica, straight or otherwise.

So, here are the marching orders:

Marching Order #1: Go read Marlene’s post for complete details. It’s not just Amazon, it’s Barnes & Noble, too.

Marching Order #2: As she suggests, write a letter to Amazon and B&N protesting their policies and suggesting how they could solve the problem.

Here’s the biggie – Marching Order #3: Buy those hot spicy books at Smashwords, which does not censor or filter your search results unless you ask it to.

Well, it’s not exactly like we can organize a march through cyberspace, but we can, at least, vote with our dollars and make our voices heard.

P.S. ~ of course I’d love it if you buy some of my books while you’re there – you can find our hottest series, Swinging Games, HERE

EXCERPT

“Yeah, I’m not enjoying it like I used to, and I have other ways to bolster my income. I’ll let someone a little younger and a lot less long in the tooth take over my place.”

“Wow, now there’s a scoop for the tabloids.” I laugh but Mike stiffens, and I realise it was a silly joke to make.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. Well it was a joke. I’d never ever—I just wouldn’t.” I trip over the words in my eagerness to make things right.

“No, no you’ve gone too far.” His hand squeezes my arm and his eyes don’t show the same anger as his words. “You’re going to have to be punished for speaking out of turn you impudent wench.”

Ah, now I know what he’s doing and the pit of my stomach is rolling like a machine full of lottery balls.

“I’m so sorry, sir, please don’t punish me. I’ll watch my tongue in future, I promise.”

“You will do wench, but you still need punishing. Stand up.”

I jump up off the sofa like I bounced up on a broken spring.

“Now young lady, follow me.” He stands up and walks me back out into the corridor then across it to a room I’ve not been in before.  One of many actually from the length of the corridor and the doors along it. When the door swings open, I can see clearly that it’s a study.

An old wood desk dominates the middle of the room. It’s back faces a massive window which shines as black as Whitby jet filled with the night sky.  In one corner of the room is a simple high backed chair with no arms. This is where he chooses to sit down and after shutting the door behind me I stand before him.

“Now only a young, foolish child would speak without thinking, so you’ll receive a childish punishment. Over my knees now young lady.” I hesitate, biting my lip. “NOW!” He barks, making me jump. “Don’t question me young lady, or you’ll not be able to sit down for a fortnight.”

I concede and lower myself awkwardly to his lap, the bottom of my clothed breasts rubbing the outside of his thigh, my pubis pushing gently against the other.  He quickly raises my skirt, folding it back over my bottom then he rips down the satin black knickers beneath.

He rubs his hand gently over the curve of my buttocks and I bite my lip, not wanting to moan out in case it enflames him more. I’ve never been spanked before but my cunt is wet and my nipples aching. However I’m not sure how much pain I can take. The idea is pleasurable, but the practicalities of it all make me anxious. I want to enjoy it, it’s obviously something he enjoys; I can feel his erection against my stomach. But I just don’t know how much punishment I’ll be able to take.

Suddenly, the thought is shocked from my mind as his usually soft hand slaps down with stinging harshness. It shocks me but it isn’t too uncomfortable. The next slap creates more heat than sharpness. I gasp and press my pubis forward trying to escape the next slap. It burns and I really start to question how much I can take.

It’s then that he gently caresses my burning rump and I mewl like a contented kitty until he snaps his hand back and slams it against my flesh several times in quick succession making me yelp with the stinging pain.

His fingers skim over my heated flesh then dip between my buttocks, tracing down between my thighs as they fall open for him, dipping into the moisture pooling there and gently teasing my clit.

“Such a horny little slut, enjoying her spanking.” He tuts and slaps my buttocks hard once more. I feel tears testing the corners of my eyes and want to yell out for him stop but I hold it in while the next two slaps fall.

“Stand up, wench.” He commands and I comply, though my legs feel shaky, and my knickers are dangling between my knees, making it decidedly difficult to stand up and keep my balance at the same time. He grabs my arm and drags me; well he never gets far in front of me so it’s more like he’s roughly leading me actually, until we reach the hefty desk. He kisses me and whispers in my ear. “You’re so fucking sexy, damn it.” He presses me down against the cold hard wood until my cheek is lying flat against its shocking coldness and my breasts are pressed down hard against the surface.

“Spread your legs,” he commands and I stretch them as far as I can, which actually isn’t far with the knickers hobbling me. Mike flips up my skirt exposing my still stinging buttocks to the air and his eyes. His soft lips kiss the reddened flesh evoking a gasp at the tenderness in the action. I close my eyes and wait for what will come next. I hear the clink of a belt buckle, and hear him curse as he struggles to undo his zip. I wonder if he’s having problems getting his hard on out. I could feel its stirrings pressing against my stomach when he spanked me, and I know it’s a solid robust thing, not made for bending or getting out of tight places. Getting into them; well that’s a whole different issue. The tell-tale crinkle of a condom packet heightens my anticipation. I know he’s going to fuck me and I can’t wait.

Definitely Judge A Book By Its Cover

We’re thrilled to welcome guest and fellow Midnight Seductions Author Elizabeth Black to our pages today!

I want to talk about covers. They can make or break a book

When I choose a book to read, if I’m not familiar with the author, the cover goes a long way to helping me choose a new book. A bad cover can sink a book for me, and I’ve seen some fugly covers. I’m thinking of two covers I have seen that are absolutely abhorrent. One is one of my old covers from a small publisher that crashed and burned a few years ago. It had to be the ugliest cover I’ve ever seen. It looked like someone went to PickAnUglyStockPhoto.com or SuckyClipArt.com, grabbed a few images, and slapped them together. It must have taken a whopping five minutes to make that cover. I hated it.

I have since made that story a freebie, and the new cover is a watercolor done by an artist. It’s one of my favorite covers. It’s simply beautiful.

My two favorite covers are for my two upcoming releases – both erotic versions of fairy tales. The first cover, depicted below, is for my novella “Climbing Her Tower”, which is an erotic version of “Rapunzel”. It’s exactly what I wanted for the story. It’s sensuous without being tacky. The colors are bright and welcoming, too.

The second cover, also depicted below, is for my novella “Trouble In Thigh High Boots”, which is an erotic version of “Puss In Boots”. I’ve written a short story erotic “Puss In Boots” but that story is only a portion of the fairy tale. “Trouble In Thigh High Boots” covers the whole thing. That cover shows off my Puss (a shapeshifer named Tita) as being a flirty little minx. Both covers are exactly what I wanted. They convey to the reader the mood of the stories and they draw you in. Since my erotic fairy tales are part of a series, I wanted the covers to be similar in design.

I’m self-publishing these stories, and I believe beautiful covers are absolutely necessary. I hired a cover artist to make them, and I recommend other self-published authors do the same unless you are very proficient at Photoshop and have an artistic eye. It’s far too easy to end up with a cover that blows chunks. I want my stories to be the best they can be, and that means hiring a cover artist. The cover can make or break a book.

Look for “Trouble In Thigh High Boots” and “Climbing Her Tower” to release in early fall.

Writing #GLBTQ Literature

Welcome to the Rainbow Book Reviews Blog Hop! Be sure to click on the graphic to link to the rest of the participants. Lots of fabulous prizes – leave a comment to enter, for ours as well as all the grand prizes. We’re offering one free download, reader’s choice, from our published books.

What does writing GLBTQ literature mean to us? We’re a married couple writing erotic romance together under our pen name, Adriana Kraft. We’re also proud parents of a gay son, members of our local PFLAG chapter, and social activists who’ve supported causes we believe in across more decades than we necessarily want to count.

Nearly three and a half years ago, we stood with other supporters on the steps of our local county Courthouse on an April afternoon awaiting word on the Iowa Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision. We were prepared to stand for our values whichever way the decision went – and we were thrilled with the outcome (and blogged about it, HERE). I don’t think we can say it better than one of us told a reporter that afternoon: “Love is love, and every couple deserves a happy ending.”

So that’s one major reason we write what we write: to celebrate love wherever it can be found, and to share with the world our belief that all persons, whatever their sexual orientation, deserve equality under the law when they form a love relationship.

There’s more of course – we do write erotic romance, after all, and our tag line is Erotic Romance for Two, Three, or More. There are so many varieties and combinations under the rainbow banner. We’re especially partial to scenes and stories that feature two women together, whether lesbian or bisexual. Our short stories and novels explore what’s possible for women (well, and the occasional man) who can’t fit themselves neatly into the box labeled “straight.” Sometimes their foray into same sex relationships turns out to be a small part of coming into their own sexually, as in Mistress of Purgatory Point. More often, same sex erotic encounters become more central for them, and they find a range of solutions for ongoing expression of their entire spectrum of sexuality. We write a world where three- and even four-way committed relationships are not only possible but welcomed.

We hope you’ll leave us a comment on why GLBTQ literature matters to you, and what your favorite pairings are. We’ll pull a winner by random number Monday morning, August 27. Good luck!
