A Little F/F Temptation

Let’s see, what sinful topic should I play with today? Here’s a clue – my last three releases all have some truly hot girl-on-girl erotic scenes. Do you detect a theme here?

So I thought I’d try to let you in on what appeals to me so much about bisexual and lesbian erotic scenes. First off – I love women’s bodies. Don’t get me wrong, I love men’s, too, and I can get as turned on by a steamy M/F scene as the next person. But there’s something special about the softness and the curves and the hot spots of a woman.

And then there’s the matter of style and pace – well, hmm. Anyone can be slow or fast, so maybe it’s just style. Here’s a sample of what I mean, from The Lady Wants More [Torquere, June 15]:

Janet leaned back until she felt the coolness of the window, but that did nothing to quell the heat pouring from her body—from her head, from her nipples, and especially, oh so especially, from her core. She curled her fingers around Brenda’s ears encouraging her to explore, to take her time—no, to hurry.

“It must’ve been a while,” Brenda said, dropping light kisses up and down the length of Janet’s pussy. “Your lips are so puffy and open and you’re already dripping and I’ve hardly touched you.”

“You’re torturing me,” Janet groaned. “And I love it.”

Another thing – I think imagination comes into play differently. When a woman does something to another woman’s body, her experience includes both what she’s doing, and what it would feel like to receive what she’s doing – double the turn on, double the urgency, double the tension. Irresistable!

Here’s a sample of the power of imagination, from Complexities [Book Three, Swinging Games, Extasy]

“Most every time I try to fall asleep I think of you with another woman.” Donna slanted a finger across Jen’s lips. “Please, I have to tell you. I admit I’m so jealous. I’ve dreamed about us together before. I hadn’t had that dream for years until recently. Then I’d wake up feeling so guilty I didn’t know if I could face you. Now I wake up soaking wet, certain we’ve been making love for hours and that you left before I could awaken fully.”

“But…”

Donna’s finger slipped into Jen’s open mouth.

Was it reflex, instinct or lust? With her eyelids closed, Jen didn’t spend much time trying to explain why she was suddenly sucking Donna’s finger deeper into her mouth.

So, um, yeah. It’s no surprise that nearly all my published heroines are either bisexual or lesbian. Here’s a quick pimp out on two of my recent releases:

The Lady Wants More [Torquere, June 15] is part of Torquere’s Sapphic Signs series, so of course it’s a lesbian romance. Or, perhaps more accurately, a falling-in-love story about a straight divorcee from the NYC suburbs and her former college roommate, a free spirit who’s been comfortably bisexual for years. Can you guess which character’s sun sign is Cancer and which is Aquarius? Here’s another EXCERPT for you.

Ripening Passion [Whiskey Creek Torrid, July 15] is second. On the surface it might look like a straight M/F love story – after all, Claire Johnson is pitted against her nemesis, Max Wilson, and they’ve got to figure out how to have sex on camera! But Claire is definitely bi, and the Sexuality Center where all the characters work creates lots of steamy DVD’s in all manner of combinations, so she’s never one to be left out. Yup, definitely some girl-on-girl here – oh, and did I mention, Claire’s a Baby Boomer? And not about to give up hot sex as she ages. You can find an excerpt HERE.

Advice to Baby Boomers: Get Rejected!

It was the late seventies, I was freshly divorced, and I was in shock and definitely not happy. So when my new counselor handed me the flyer for an Association for Humanistic Psychology workshop entitled “How to be Happily Unmarried,” I was all over it. I desperately needed hope from somewhere, and I was sure willing to learn from anyone who dared put the words happily and unmarried in the same sentence.

I can still remember my nervousness as I entered the large ballroom in a downtown Chicago hotel – there must have been over two hundred people in the room. I almost turned around and walked out, but desperation won the day and I walked in. I probably slunk to the nearest seat – still royally ashamed that I was not only single, but divorced. I’m quite certain I didn’t make eye contact with anyone.

My heart sank again when I saw our presenter: short and unassuming but reasonably trim, she was neatly dressed in slacks and a sweater, and her hair was gray. How was anybody that old going to have anything useful to say to me?

Once she started speaking, however, she energized the room. Lively and charismatic, she could have made a living as a stand-up comic. She swiftly broke us into small groups, handed us assignments, shuffled the groups, gave us a new task, and only then did she tell us her story. In her mid fifties, she was divorced after a life-long marriage, and she was taking no prisoners in her determination to form relationships and build happiness back into her life.

We had a one hour lunch break that day, and she gave us marching orders for that, as well. Our instructions were to start conversations with at least four strangers on the streets of downtown Chicago. It didn’t count if the person ignored us – we had to keep trying until four different persons at least responded to something we said. (f.y.i., she didn’t say form a relationship or take these persons home to our bed – just start a conversation!)

The day was a total success. I sailed through her luncheon assignment with flying colors (and probably made eye contact, too), and by the end of the day I had dates with three other workshop participants, my first dates since the divorce. I considered it money well spent: I could taste happiness again, and I began to have hope.

Those three men are long gone from my life, but something else from that day has stuck with me. During Q&A, a timid-looking woman raised her hand and asked something like the following: “Aren’t you afraid of rejection?” I’ll never forget our presenter’s answer: “Honey, if I don’t get rejected at least once a day, I’m not trying very hard.”

I won’t say I follow her advice every day, but I know it made a difference in my life, and that difference is part of why I now write erotic romance with my husband of three decades. It’s also part of why I so much admire Claire Johnson, heroine of our latest Baby Boomer release, Ripening Passion (Whiskey Creek Press Torrid):

Claire Johnson’s dedication to sex—the cornerstone of her career—led her to found the Center for Sexuality and Sex Practices. Now in her fifties, she knows the Center must keep pace with the rapidly growing Baby Boomer market, so she agrees to go back on camera for a series on sex and aging. But work with her nemesis?

Former English Professor Max Wilson has championed the cause of the Center ever since his deceased wife sought the Center’s help to rekindle the nearly extinguished sexual flames of their relationship. He loves working on camera and welcomes the challenge to perform with the svelte but feisty temptress.

Sparks fly immediately on and off camera. Can either Claire or Max transform those sparks into a fire of sexual desire for their viewers? And if they succeed, what will happen when the movie’s over?

I don’t think Claire ever had a need to take a workshop like my success story from the seventies – but she sure could have taught it. The other piece of wisdom I gleaned from this look backwards in time? Mid-fifties doesn’t seem nearly as old as it used to! Something else I couldn’t have known that day – hot sex after fifty is a good thing.

Sunday Six ~ another taste of Vegas

For this week’s Sunday Six – another taste of Las Vegas.  I guess this time what happens in Las Vegas didn’t stay there!

From Vegas Gambler

Jack snapped his eyes open from a dead sleep to see a tiny Asian woman kneeling on the bed beside him stark naked, wide eyed, and screeching. He opened his mouth to speak when an excruciating pain shot through his left calf. “Oh shit!” he shouted, scrambling off the bed to hobble on one leg. He grabbed his calf, to no avail.

Small hands joined his and he opened his eyes to look down at the petite woman with dark hair streaming down her back kneading his calf muscles. He’d forgotten Meg’s newest lover was also a masseuse.

Sunday Six ~ First Kiss

Six sentences from Ripening Passion

Max set down his wine glass and peered at her. His eyes gleamed and sparkled. “I think I have enough energy to manage a kiss.”

Claire held his gaze, then tipped her chin in invitation. He leaned over and nibbled at the corner of her mouth. Only their lips touched.

Sunday Six ~ a Little Spanking

A Little Spanking is a Good Thing…

For today’s Six Sentence Sunday, a snippet from our next release, coming in a month to Whiskey Creek Press Torrid.

Ripening Passion is the sequel to Smoldering Passion ~ here’s a peek at how the over-fifty crowd gets it done:

Max tried to remember what she’d said about spanking: firm, rhythmic, methodical. He bit his tongue as he worked on one buttock until it reddened from his attention.

“That stings nicely,” Claire moaned. “Don’t leave out the other cheek.”

He nodded, paying equal attention to both. Once it matched the color of the first, he began alternating strokes.

Finally, Peonies!

It was a long winter, stretching into what should have been spring with a four inch snowfall in late April. We were gone the first half of May (Cancun!). The second half seemed only to deliver strong winds, cold rains and dark skies. Perennials braved the elements by sending up sturdy green stems and leaves but didn’t risk putting forth blossoms.

Now we’re suddenly breaking records for daily high temperatures, and my back yard is awash in colorful bloom and richly scented air. Here are some pics I took this morning to celebrate – perhaps they’ll cheer me and offer hope next winter when once again the flowerbeds rest under three feet of snow.

There’s always a piece of one or both of us in all the characters we write, so it’s no surprise that some of them love spring and flowers as much as I do. Melissa Hopkins would be one of them. She’s the heroine of Smoldering Passion, and I’ll drop in a blurb and one of her outdoor excerpts below.

Right now we’re in final edits on the sequel, Ripening Passion, due out in July at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. Like Melissa, I had to go spend time with my flowers this morning before cooping myself up with the edits. Even in the midst of painstaking revisions, I’m loving this new story about a pair of fifty-something lovers. You can read more about Ripening Passion HERE.

BLURB Smoldering Passion

Work for a sex institute? Anything for her art! With her graduate stipend running out, budding artist Melissa Hopkins applies for a job where her aunt used to work – at a New York center that studies sexuality and creates educational sex videos. Sworn off women after a disastrous relationship, Center Director Harry Gage ignores the danger signals and hires the striking young woman who reminds him of his former lover. Her air of innocence will captivate center viewers, so he’s sure she’ll be a hit on camera. What he’s not prepared for is how she pierces his heart. When the sparks ignite, is it love or just sex – and what must each of them risk to find out?

EXCERPT Smoldering Passion

Melissa stood and rotated her shoulders. She had to get out of her apartment. It was a beautiful day, and she didn’t want to spend it all inside.

She grabbed her keys and some cash and headed down the stairs to street level. She walked briskly, suddenly knowing where she wanted to be.

Shortly, she turned in at the entrance to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and slowed her pace, pausing to watch the ducks in the Japanese water garden. This was space for relaxing—for breathing deeply, soaking in colors and breezes and scents. The riot of spring bloom was long gone and summer was at its peak. She headed for the Shakespeare Garden and was relieved to find a shady bench empty in a secluded corner. Daisies, Black-eyed Susans and Daylilies formed a casual cluster in yellow, white and orange beside the bench. Further off some taller mauve blooms she couldn’t name were full of butterflies, and a curly-headed toddler ran up to them laughing gleefully. The child’s parents stood nearby, holding hands, happy, as if they had no care in the world.

Melissa shook off a wave of loneliness. She waited till the family left and headed across the broad open meadow towards the rock garden, stopping to watch more children playing tag and hiding behind shrubs and bushes. An artist had set up his easel next to a large tall tree that had one out-of-place low slung branch reaching several yards straight out, parallel to the ground. She could easily imagine relaxing under the protective boughs, but knew better than to disturb his scene or ask what he was seeing.

The hairs on the back of her neck prickled. She stopped and turned around. Nothing seemed out of place—the children were still running with abandon, lovers walked hand-in-hand stopping for brief kisses—there: a man stood on a distant knoll watching where she stood. A hat pulled low on his head served almost as a mask.

She cocked her head to the side. Harry? She jogged toward the small hill. The man turned and scurried over the rise. When she crested it there was nothing but trees and bushes and flowers. Not a single person was in the little glade.

Six Sentence Sunday

Today’s Sunday Six comes from Vegas Gambler – Book Four in the Meghan’s Playhouse series at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. A modern day Aphrodite, Meg loves bringing other couples together through sharing herself with them. This time, however, her radar may be a little off!

BLURB

Fresh with success from a recent stint in a musical on the Las Vegas Strip, Meghan Keenan takes some time off to play with her current flame Jack Hawthorne, professional poker player. She’s delighted to add her petite masseuse Tia Minh to the mix and even more thrilled when she learns Tia’s relationship with her boyfriend Tony Sanders is on the skids. It’s the perfect challenge! Tia has different ideas – she thinks Tony would be perfect for Meg, and she conspires to throw them together any way she can. Ever the gambler, Jack catches onto her game quickly and keeps the ruse going behind Meg’s back. Who knew his heart was up for grabs?

“Ah, karma—I’ve read about that some.” Jack ran a finger down Tia’s breast and tapped the pebbled nipple.

Tia shivered.

“Can you change your karma?”

She shrugged, clutching his wrist and keeping his hand on her breast. “I think a person can influence it, but it’s best not to fight the forces of karma.”

REVIEW from Romance Junkies: “VEGAS GAMBLER is an extremely sensual erotic romance… Filled with warmth, blazing hot sex, well-developed characters and an interesting plot, this story is a delight, but it is not for the faint of heart.”

March News from Adriana

MARCH NEWS FROM ADRIANA

New Contract! We’re way excited to report that Whiskey Creek Press Torrid just offered us a contract on Ripening Passion – the first of three sequels to what has been our WCPT best seller, Smoldering Passion. No release date yet but you can bet we’ll keep you posted.

The series explores the interplay between love and sex for characters who make their living having sex on camera and promoting healthy sexuality. Ripening Passion focuses on a pair of over-fifty characters introduced in Smoldering Passion, proving that passion and sexiness are not limited by age.

The novel continues the story of the Center for Sexuality and Sex Practices that was begun in Smoldering Passion. In Ripening Passion, the Center has initiated a special focus on sexuality and aging, and readers are treated to a behind-the-scenes look at how their videos are crafted – the perfect opportunity for some harmless steamy voyeurism. As always in our novels, readers will find in Ripening Passion a range of sexual orientations and combinations and an open, accepting approach to sexual pleasure.

As we move into production we’ll be posting some tantalizing excerpts to whet your appetites!

Other WIPs: Finishing the edits on Ripening Passion and polishing it to a shine for submission was our main January project. In February we turned to editing our lesbian erotic romance novelette for Torquere’s Sapphic Signs project – due March 1st.  Just made the deadline! Our story explores the relationship between the Zodiac signs Cancer (um, that would be my sign) and Aquarius (hubby’s sign) as our two heroines rekindle a spotty relationship begun in their college days twenty years earlier. It was a lot of fun to write and gave us a chance to showcase (and laugh at) some of our stereotypical Zodiac traits – believe me, we’ve got them! Release is scheduled for June 22, to coincide with the Zodiac sign Cancer.

For some hot lesbian reads, check out the other entries in this series, created by fellow members of the Sapphic Planet author group: Fia Malone’s The Age of Aquarius, released in January; Adrianne Brennan’s Pisces, February; and Moondancer Drake’s upcoming March release for Aries.

Meanwhile we’re in the early stages of writing book #4 in the Passion series. I can hardly wait to share some of those hot scenes with you – just writing them together is part of the fun stage of being erotic romance authors. I’m thinking we’ll have to do a couple blog features on some of the hot sex toys our fictitious “Center” decides to showcase in its videos. I would have loved to be in the room while they were filming the scene we just finished writing!

Contests!

Congratulations to Sheila, who has won her choice of a free download from my backlist!

The prize for my March contest is a $10.00 gift certificate to All Romance E Books. To enter, just leave a comment anywhere on my blog sometime in the month of March!

Writer’s Platform Building Crusade If you want to meet some fascinating new (to me) authors, check out this list of 217 writers who signed to crusade with Rachael Harrie and follow her marching orders. I’m learning a lot, improving my marketing platform, and enjoying meeting this diverse collection of pubbed and yet-to-be pubbed writers who write something thoughtful to ponder.

Archived Radio interview and Excerpt On February 10, fellow Sapphic Planet member Lara Zielinsky featured me and three other authors on her blogtalk Radio Show Readings in Lesbian & Bisexual Women’s Fiction. You can catch the hour long discussion on Lesbian Romance in the archives at this LINK. For the last fifteen minutes each of us read brief excerpts from our featured works: Kate Christie, Leaving L.A.; R. E. Bradshaw, The Girl Back Home; Nadine LaPierre, The Slayer; Adriana Kraft, Meg’s Folly.

Signs of Spring This winter has seemed especially long, at least here in North Iowa. But even with the morning temp right at zero, the birds were tuning up their spring courting songs when I let the dog out early this morning. Two days ago driving home from work at twilight I saw a large flock of wild geese heading north, and this afternoon as I crossed the river a bald eagle was soaring overhead. The equinox is less than three weeks away and I am grateful.

National Orgasm Month

…so I saw something on Twitter about June being National Orgasm Month – did you know there was such a thing? I decided that’d be a great topic for my mid-month blog.

Googling the term brought mixed results and the verdict is not in about which month it really is. Passion Parties says October – the only month with a Big “O.” Seems appropriate! Over at Associated Content, the focus is on the Merry Month of May, what with Mother’s Day and all – moms certainly deserve a few orgasms, and I’d like to hope there were some involved in becoming a mom, so that works. At Yahoo Shine, April is the favored month, with a tip of the hat to October and a suggestion that two Orgasm Months a year, six months apart, is better than only one. To which hubby replied, only TWO months?

Hmm. So none of those is June and now I can’t find the original tweet. No matter – any time is a good time to celebrate! We all know how exciting an orgasm feels, and how spectacular it can to be share one with that special someone (or someones, if you’re a character in one of my erotic novels) – but why would anyone care enough to make it a special month?

Turns out there are some high powered health benefits that come with the physical and emotional turn-on of orgasms. Leafing through the June issue of Health Magazine I landed on an article “The New Numbers to Live By” and discovered that for your health, they are recommending ONE orgasm a day! A major health benefit is the release of the body’s natural opiates with their anxiety- and stress-relieving properties. In addition it leads to the release of both DHEA and estrogen, which lower bad cholesterol, improve heart function, increase bone density, and help keep skin supple and healthy. For more on the benefits, check out this article by Passion Parties – and just in case you think the benefits apply only for women, here’s a take on the plusses for the other gender, an article from AskMen.com.

So curl up with your favorite erotic romance novel and a special partner (or more) – or, as TwoLips Reviews said when it reviewed Colors of the Night, keep a bucket of toys close at hand – and never go too long without the big O. You’ll be glad you did!

Links to excerpts from my erotic romance novels can be found HERE. Watch for the finale in the Meghan’s Playhouse Series, coming to Whiskey Creek Press Torrid on August 15!

My Life on Twitter

I joined Twitter slightly over a year ago, on the advice of @bookgal Penny Sansevieri after listening to her keynote speech at the 2009 EPICon. The point, as I understood it then, was to get my “brand” in front of more potential readers—especially, readers who might not have joined any of the nearly 100 fiction-specific yahoo groups I then belonged to, readers who didn’t know my hot LGBT erotic romance e-books were exactly what was missing in their lives. It’s been a fascinating year.

I now have nearly 1500 followers and follow roughly the same number. Who are they? In the beginning, they were other erotic romance writers and the people who followed them. But I have a couple of specific niche markets—the LGBT community and the swing lifestyle. These make for some interesting bedfellows, so to speak.

I follow and support LGBT causes and marriage equality. I’ve “met” Dr. Loren Olson (@LorenAOlsonMD), a Des Moines psychiatrist who came out as gay at mid life and, since he lives in Iowa, is now married to his partner. He’s interviewing men with similar stories and writing a book about it. Contact him if that’s you!

One of my favorite encounters was taking the “how hetero are you” quiz from @StockholmPride and discovering that, based on my twitter friends and the language in my tweets, I am only 1% hetero. I was so excited I blogged about it—you can still take the quiz, at http://www.stockholmpride.org/howhetero/ .

I discovered the power of hash marks to bring me instantly into the community of peeps involved in any specific event. This past month I’ve loved tweeting with other peeps following #NCAA March Madness, especially the night UNI beat first-seed Kansas to move into the Sweet Sixteen. But it works for any breaking news. Last October I couldn’t be in Washington D.C. for the National Equality March, but watching it on C-Span and being part of the conversation at #NEM was beyond powerful, and I blogged about that, too.

Swing lifestyle (focus of a hot series I’m writing at Extasy Books) brings me some pretty sizzling connections—swing clubs, swingers, sex toy stores, and even porn stars, pretty much anyone with an interest in eroticism. In case you didn’t know, “Adriana Kraft” is the pen name under which my husband and I write erotic romance with mainly bisexual heroines. Swinging, it turns out, is one solution for a heroine who finally figured out at mid-life that she is bi.

I’ll just shout out some of those fun connections: @chantelleaustin is an Australian Life Coach and Swinger who has written a guide for peeps new to the swing lifestyle. @PaulasPleasures runs a neat toy store and describes herself this way: “Pleasure Expert and Party Consultant, Teaching women how to Ignite the Passion in their love lives.” Sounds good to me! @DrMiaRose runs a website called Better Sex For Women packed with fab tips and info.

And just for fun, I follow some of the rich and famous. It was neat to catch @ApoloOhno’s tweets while he (and we) watched Olympic figure skating. If @TheEllenShow has anything great going on, I hear about it first on Twitter. Former Tonight Show host @ConanOBrien has to stay off TV and has chosen Twitter for his medium, usually a single tweet per day, sometimes a joke. From watching #NEM, I picked up @BillieMyers and @ladygaga, so now I’m always on top of what they’re up to.

Hope you’ll follow me @adrianakraft on Twitter – wonder what the next year will bring!
