Do you Play by the Rules? #RomanticSuspense #CrimeFiction #Danger

Looking for a steamy read full of danger and suspense? Check out my romantic suspense, The Heist.

BLURB

A heist? A murder? It’s villain’s choice.

A special-order art theft? Tedious, but seamless – until small town museum director Kara Daniels calls in the experts. Furious her favorite trio of priceless impressionist paintings has been stolen from its traveling exhibit on her watch, Kara is determined to save not only the paintings, but her future in the art world. She’ll stop at nothing to entrap the thief.

Ted Springs knows the underbelly of the criminal world a little closer than he might like—but he’s turned it to good advantage, first as a police officer, and now as detective for the Upper Midwest Arts Council. His job? To guarantee the security of the valuable paintings in the Council’s traveling exhibits.

Heat sizzles when Ted and Kara collide—can they work together, before it’s too late?

EXCERPT

Set Up: Embarrassed from an earlier encounter where she literally bumped into detective Ted Springs, Kara is cautiously bantering with him as she drives him from the airport to Elk Grove.

“If you ever get to know me, you’ll find there’s nothing unreal about me.”

He exhaled slowly. “And do you think I’ll ever get to know you?”

She giggled softly. “Not in the way you’re thinking.” She thrust out her chin. “At least not while you’re working this case.”

He took his time to chew on that information. “Fair enough,” he said. He wished he knew what he’d done or said to disarm her. Maybe it had been the memory of their brief encounter. “Not that I need more incentive to wrap this museum situation up quickly.” He paused. “Do you suppose we’ll be able to hug now and then like friends, now that we’ve cleared the air? Shaking hands seems so stodgy.”

Kara laughed quickly and then peeked over at him with a devastating smile. “As long as you don’t paw my boobs.”

Smiling, he didn’t miss a beat. “How about your rear?”

She arched an eyebrow at him. “That is a different matter. Your large hands did leave a pleasant impression on my ass.”

So she didn’t mind a little flirting even while he worked the case. “Good. I believe in first impressions, and I always like to be clear about the rules of the game. Now maybe you should tell me how you think one or more people entered the museum supposedly without a key.”

She scrunched her mouth. “So do you play by the rules?”

“I didn’t say that. I just like to know what they are.”

If he looked at her with bedroom eyes… The Heist #Excerpt #KU #steamy #RomanticSuspense

Looking for a steamy romantic suspense?

The Heist, by Adriana Kraft

BLURB

A special-order art theft? Tedious, but seamless – until small town museum director Kara Daniels calls in the experts. Heat sizzles when Ted and Kara collide—can they work together, before it’s too late?

EXCERPT

Set up ~ the museum has just been broken into for the first time, but nothing’s been stolen. Even so, the Arts Council is sending out a detective to improve their security.

The entire day had cast a pall of suspicion over Kara and her staff. Even the police had discounted the entire unforced entry as a likely prank by an insider.

Would Ted Springs want to talk with everyone? Talk. She remembered Sasha’s expression when she’d used that term. They both knew Springs would be more into interrogating than talking, even if this was supposed to be a consulting trip. He’d have to gather information in order to give them the best advice he and the Council could offer.

Clearing her desk, Kara smiled at Sasha’s chauffeur-babysitter reference. Springs might need someone to drive him about, and she’d probably get Irving involved in that, but it was definitely her job to meet him at the airport and to see that he was dealt with professionally. He wouldn’t want or need a babysitter.

She allowed her mind to wander to their first meeting in the Council’s Chicago offices. It had been a random event, an embarrassing experience. She’d barreled into him while exiting Alice Erikson’s office. Coming along behind her, Alice had made the introductions, saving an awkward moment as Kara disentangled herself from Ted’s arms. She’d never given their meeting much thought, other than to be aware he’d taken more time than needed to free her. She’d never expected to see him again.

Did he remember their brief encounter? Given his reluctance to let go of her quickly, she surmised he was a boob man. She had no difficulty recalling his firm chest as she’d crushed into him, or his strong arms keeping her from falling or retreating.

It was his booming laugh that stuck with her most. “We ought to try that again sometime,” he’d chortled, settling her back on her own feet.

He’d acknowledged the introduction by shaking her hand and jesting, “Too bad I have to rush off.”

Kara rapped her fingers on the desktop, not pleased with the burning embarrassment she still harbored from that initial meeting. That was one of the reasons she had to drive to Lincoln to pick up Ted Springs at the airport. If he looked at her with bedroom eyes, she’d straighten him out immediately.

Thoughts of a full-bodied heroine… The Heist, by Adriana Kraft #RomanticSuspense #KU #ArtTheft #IndieAuthor

EXCERPT

Set up ~ the museum has just been broken into for the first time, but nothing’s been stolen. Kara is meeting with her curator, Sasha, as they prepare for the detective being sent by the Arts Council.

Kara turned back to Sasha. “You’ve triple and quadruple checked the exhibit areas? Nothing is missing or damaged?”

Sasha nodded. “That’s right. Irving and David have checked everything over and over, too. You walked through the entire building yourself. Nothing is missing. Nothing is damaged. That’s what’s crazy about this. Why would anyone go to the bother of disabling our computers and alarm system and steal nothing?” She paused. “And the creepy thing is we know they were in the building. The two soda cans on the floor in the vanPatten room didn’t just walk in on their own.”

Chuckling, Kara agreed, “No, I do believe they were carried in. Maybe someone wanted us to know just how vulnerable this place is.” She scowled. “But who, and why? I thought we were supposed to have a fairly sophisticated computer system.”

“Not sophisticated enough,” Sasha huffed. “Maybe it was some computer geeks at the college trying to show off.”

“Maybe. I hope Ted Springs will be able to shed some light on those questions. Doesn’t look like the cops are going to do much. No theft, no damage. They have more significant crimes to deal with.” Kara checked her watch. “It’s been a long day. Why don’t you head out when you’re ready? I’ll walk around through the place with David while we close up. Thank god it’s a Monday and we didn’t have to be open to the public. I’ll check with you in the morning after I get back from the airport with Springs.”

Sasha smirked. “At least I don’t have to be his chauffeur-slash-babysitter. See you.”

Kara smiled watching her curator saunter out of the office. Monday was their dress-down day, and Sasha was clad in overly tight work jeans and a tank top. For someone who wanted to maintain her privacy, Sasha seldom hesitated to dress provocatively.

Sasha could get by with tight jeans, or slinky outfits, or minis, with her petite frame. Heaving a sigh, Kara tried to keep her envy in check. Petite was hardly a word anyone would use to describe her. Full bodied, perhaps. Voluptuous, if one was trying to be kind. At least she had the strength to help David and Irving unload shipping crates. Some of those weighed three hundred pounds or more, depending on the size of the painting and its frame, requiring dollies and the greatest of care. Sasha usually stood by recording and documenting crate numbers and contents.

Maybe it was their age difference. At twenty-six, Sasha could get by with most any fashion. Seven years older, Kara had fewer options. She shook her head, trying to refocus. It wasn’t age that made the difference—it was the difference in skirt and sweater size. Kara exhaled, letting go of fruitless comparisons.

He’s Supposed to be Very Good… The Heist by Adriana Kraft #KU #RomanticSuspense #Crime #Danger #Detective

EXCERPT

Here are the opening lines of the book…

Kara Daniels swiveled in her desk chair to get a better look at her curator, Sasha Ivory.

“You’ve met this Ted Springs who’s supposed to be dashing to our rescue?” Sasha spat out the question and pushed a strand of blond hair back into her fashionable pixie cut.

“Briefly,” Kara responded, trying not to get caught up in Sasha’s frustration. As director of the Nelson museum, Kara had overall responsibility for the mid-sized institution, including security. She hugged her aching shoulders. The stress had been building ever since she’d arrived early that morning to open the building, only to discover it was already unlocked. “He’s supposed to be very good at what he does.”

EXCERPT

“I see…” Well, what was she supposed to do? She couldn’t throw her life down the toilet because she felt sorry for a client. “Look, I feel bad about the predicament you’re in, but I’m your driver—”

“A driver whom I asked to marry me.” His gaze had turned to steel. Even his brows slanted inward.

“I can’t…” She coughed. “I can’t marry you. We don’t even know each other.”

“That’s because you won’t allow me the chance to know you.” He settled both hands on the table. “Allow me to get to know you. I can provide you with what you truly desire—your own town car for clients. Your own business.”

“Where are we going to get married? This place is a tourist resort.” Okay, what she’d said was dumb, but that was about all she was capable of uttering right now.

“Banff. I can procure a ring for you at a local jewelry proprietor. It’s simply a matter of visiting the town hall to obtain a marriage license.”

He was truly and utterly serious. She sagged in her chair and set both palms on her temples.

“Goodness, Shannon.” He chortled. “You look as if I asked you to rob a bank with me when I simply asked for your hand in marriage.”

Hearing her name on his lips again left a velvet-like tingling sensation on her skin. She glanced up. He continued to sit with both hands on the table, simply staring.

“Marriage is a serious commitment—”

“I think I know how serious of a commitment marriage is.” He finally lifted his filled glass and sat back. From the way he moved, he must have crossed his legs. His elbow rested on the arm of the chair. “There has never been divorce in my family, otherwise I think my mother would have left my father ages ago.”

“Is this why your father is strict about who you’ll marry?”

He grinned while sipping from his glass. “No. He prefers to keep with tradition. Every son and daughter of a Daugherty marries into another family from old money.”

“Then I think he’d have our marriage annulled,” Shannon pointed out—anything to stop this crazy conversation from going a step further.

“Never.” Séamus’ grin vanished. “He wouldn’t do anything to smear the Daugherty name. As I said—there has never been divorce in our family. Annulment isn’t an option, either. We are Irish Catholic.”

“You have a strong faith?” This took Shannon by surprise.

Séamus flicked his hand. “I attend Mass when I’m obliged.”

Well, his beliefs weren’t any of her business. No doubt his father ordered Séamus to attend service for special holidays and such. He was correct in one respect, though—his family’s outlook was from over a century ago.

“Now… I offered you your own business. What do you say? Yes?” He took another sip from his glass.

He was so nonchalant about everything. Maybe it came from being stinking wealthy and having whatever he wanted at his fingertips.

“Your father wouldn’t approve. I’m not Irish. I’m not Catholic. I’m not from this old money you speak about. I never even attended university. I’m Ojibway and from the rez. I follow the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers.”

“No, he wouldn’t approve, but I think you are perfect.”

“Perfect?” She shifted in the chair. “How?”

“You’re everything I would want to marry.” He motioned at the attendant. “Let’s eat first. We can discuss this further on the balcony.”

An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes. When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.

Award Winning Kellie Kamryn’s newest: Rebound @KellieKamryn #MFRWAuthor #ExtasyBooks

Today we’re thrilled to host award-winning author Kellie Kamryn, here to promote her most recent release. We first met Kellie at the Hot Mojave Knights con in Las Vegas four years ago, and we’re so glad we did! A petite sprite of a thing, she is a former gymnast still lithe enough to show off with a cartwheel at the dinner/dance! Not only that, she’s a superb writer, and also a great voice who creates audio books. We’re proud to call her our friend.

We know you’ll love her latest release, a second chance at love story featuring – what else – a gymnast. It rings with authenticity, and you’ll pull for this spunky heroine to get her happy ending, without giving up what really matters.

BLURB:

An award-winning choreographer faces her biggest loss when she’s teamed up to coach with her former lover at a gymnastics camp for Olympic hopefuls.

Claire LeMay is at the top of her game—she’s head coach for a top gymnastics facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her gymnasts winning awards for her outstanding choreography. Now her biggest challenge is to coach alongside the man she’s avoided for three years after rejecting his offer of coaching under his command at his club in Ottawa, Ontario.

After sinking every penny of his inheritance into his state-of-the-art gymnastics facility, Justin Black has achieved his dream. But even with hundreds of members and well-trained coaches, when Claire’s presence invades his space, he realizes she’s the one thing that’s missing. Clueless about why she didn’t accept his earlier job offer, he is determined to discover why she turned him down.

Will they be a rebound romance, destined to repeat the same old routine, or can they choreograph a new one?

EXCERPT:

Chin propped in her hand, Claire gazed out the window and watched the rain fall, taking slow, conscious breaths. She held up her wine glass in a toast. “Thank you for this. It was very nice of you to invite me to dinner.”

“You’re picking up the cheque.” He winked at her in jest.

She batted her eyelashes at him. “Well then, perhaps I will make sure I order the most expensive thing for dessert.”

Eying each other over the rim of their wine glasses for a moment, they both opened their mouths to speak at the same time. She gestured for him to go first.

“Why did you walk out on me?” he asked.

Caught off guard by his bluntness, she cleared her throat. “You don’t start with anything easy, do you?” She asked a frank question of her own. “In that case—why didn’t you come after me?”

He expelled a breath and dragged a hand through his hair. “Is that what you wanted?”

“To be honest—I don’t know what I wanted. It all seems like so long ago and so childish now. I thought you loved me, and I thought you understood, but I suppose you can’t understand what I never put into words.”

Justin set his glass on the table. “I thought we had plans together, dreams together.”

She released a slow breath. “Those were your dreams, your plans—not mine.”

He appeared confused for a moment, then he nodded in understanding. “Ah, I see. Thus the things you didn’t put into words.” He sighed. “I suppose it’s fair to say we were not on the same page, and may have been in fact, in different chapters altogether.”

She nodded. “You always talked about your plans, what you wanted to do, how you were going to do it—and I was happy for you. But I was twenty-two, Justin, and still felt like a teenager. I didn’t know how to tell you that I wanted to be head coach of my own gym, not just live in your shadow.”

His brow crinkled in concern. “I wouldn’t have asked you to do that.”

“But I didn’t know that. And I was far too afraid of disappointing you to say anything. A habit I’m only beginning to break.” She took another sip from her wine glass, then set it on the table.” Tears filled her eyes. Anxiety squeezed her heart. What if he didn’t understand now? Did it matter? She’d managed to build a life without him up to this point.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his tone gentle.

“Yes.” She sniffed. “I consciously work through being anxious all the time.”

He frowned and stared at his cutlery. Then he fixed his gaze on her and reached across the table for her hand. “Tell me now. Tell me everything. I’m listening.”

Tears dripped down her cheeks, and she pressed her fingertips to her lips a moment. “I don’t know where to start.”

He gave her hand a squeeze. “Start with why you left. Tell me what you wanted out of life. Tell me why I lost you and if I will ever have a chance of getting you back.”

Claire nodded at him. “I ask for one thing—please don’t be angry.”
