Synopsis

Silent Knight: Paul Stanton thought he had it all — until his lover dumped him for another man, forcing Paul to rethink his life. But when a trip home for the holidays goes predictably wrong, Paul ends up stranded in the woods. There’s more to Andy Reynolds than meets the eye. But is a chance encounter enough to bind two men who have nothing in common except their sex?

Sleepless Knight: When the two-year itch infects their relationship, Andy arranges a much needed vacation. Andy will do anything to make Paul happy, even if it means bringing another man into their bed. But is a threesome really the answer? Or will it drive them further apart?

Publisher’s Note: Silent Knight, Sleepless Knight (Duet) contains the previously published novellas Silent Knight and Sleepless Knight.

Excerpt

Andy moved through the woods in a slow stalk. Nothing beat hunting in the snow. Most Keystone State hunters called it quits by late December, but Andy was a hardheaded optimist. Besides, he enjoyed the solitude, and dealing with winter’s stark elements provided an extra challenge. There were other pluses as well. Even a novice hunter could follow the deer tracks, and the light wind dispersed Andy’s scent and covered any sounds he made.

But the wind picked up, blowing the snow sideways. Deer tended to lay low during high winds. It looked like this hunt would end with no game. Good thing these hunting trips weren’t all about the kill. Andy hunted for food, but mostly to get out, and be a part of nature. The experience took him back to a happy time when his parents were still alive. He and his dad spent a lot of time in the woods. No TV, no cars, no other people, just the two of them hanging out and having a good time. Half the time they came home empty handed, but it didn’t matter. Andy’s mom would welcome them home with a good, hot meal.

God, he missed them. At least they’d died together. A car accident. Never knew what hit them, according to the coroner. Andy had come home to bury them a year ago and never left.

Snow on an overhanging branch dropped white bombs on Andy’s head. He brushed it off, and looked around. No animal life disturbed the spectacular view. No sound, except for the howling wind. He felt insignificant in these surroundings, yet more alive than he did in the city.

Andy packed up his gear and started backtracking toward his ATV. The wind blasted him and drove him off his path a few times, but finally the gusts eased and the ATV appeared in his sights. It occurred to him he might have to leave it, but old reliable started right up. Andy nosed it around and got back on the road, recognizable because it was the only stretch clear of trees. Mishaps were more common in the winter, but the white stuff didn’t intimidate Andy. He knew these backwoods like the —

Andy swerved to the left to avoid the man in his path. The ATV slammed into a car, and Andy catapulted feet over head. One second he was behind the wheel, the next he was flying through the air. Andy landed face down in a snow covered hill of pinecones that cushioned his touchdown. Everything happened so fast. For a few scary seconds he couldn’t breathe, then someone grabbed him and rolled him over.

Before Andy could react, a hand gripped his chin and tilted his head backward. An ear covered his mouth.

“What the fuck!” Andy cried out. He opened his eyes just as the other man jerked his head back. When Andy’s blurry vision cleared, he saw a pair of worried eyes staring down at him. Snowflakes drifted around the stranger’s head, and stuck to his long dark lashes. The sound of the wind faded into the background, and the silent snowy woods provided a surreal backdrop behind the green-eyed stranger. Andy sucked in a frosty breath. In the midst of the chilling temperatures, heat sparked in his groin.

“Are you okay?”

The voice brought Andy back to reality. “No thanks to you.”

Andy attempted to get up, but Green-eyes gripped his arms and held him down. “Don’t move, you might have broken something.”

“Don’t even try playing white knight. This is your fault, asshole.”

Green-eyes backed off and held his hands up in surrender.

Andy struggled to a sitting position and glared at the other man. “I’m fucking freezing, and you want me to lay here.”

“Sss-sorry.”

Andy stared at the man’s stuttering lips. They were blue. The color didn’t go well with his eyes. Oh hell! His white knight was in worse shape than he was. “Gimme a hand,” Andy barked. “We need to get outta this storm before we both freeze.”

When love is forbidden, the whole world’s a prison.

BLURB

Dylan Moore will do anything for freedom. Seven years ago, a gay plague spread to heterosexuals, killing millions and sparking brutal anti-gay riots. The Guardians rounded up men who tested positive for the homogene and imprisoned them in remote quarantine centers like desolate Camp Malheur. Since then, Dylan has hacked the camp’s security systems and hoarded spare bits of electronics, seeking some way to escape. He has concluded the human guards are the only weakness in the facility’s defenses.

Camp guard Rafe Cowell is H-negative. He figures the lust he feels watching prisoner 3218 masturbate on the surveillance cameras must be due to his loneliness and isolation. When he finally meets the young queer, he discovers that Dylan is brilliant, brave, sexy as hell — and claims to be in love with Rafe. Despite his qualms, Rafe finds he can’t resist the other man’s charm. By the time Dylan asks for his help in escaping, Rafe cares too much for Dylan to refuse.

Dylan’s plan goes awry and Rafe comes to his rescue. Soon they’re both fugitives, fleeing from militant survivalists, murderous androids, homophobic ideologues and a powerful man who wants Dylan as his sexual toy. Hiding in the Plague-ravaged city of Sanfran, Dylan and Rafe learn there’s far more than their own safety at stake. Can they help prevent the deaths of millions more people? And can Rafe trust the love of a man who deliberately seduced him in order to escape from quarantine?

Note: This novel was previously released by Pride Publishing under the title Quarantine. It has been revised and re-edited for this release.

EXCERPT

Rafe read the conflict in Dylan’s face. Pleasure versus responsibility. Instant gratification balanced against long-term risk. Lust versus love.

The ex-guard held his breath. His pulse pounded in his temples. If Dylan chose this anonymous fuck, that was the end for the two of them. He couldn’t share—he didn’t have it in him. Anger leached away, replaced by fear and a vision of future sorrow—a life on the run, an empty existence, without the one thing that he cared about…

“I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to lead you on.” Dylan sidled up to Rafe and slipped his arm around the black man’s waist. “We don’t play outside our relationship. I hope you can understand.”

Rafe relaxed slightly. Relief flooded through him. He hugged Dylan to his side, noticing the damp heat of the other man’s skin even in the midst of the drama.

Something flickered in the stranger’s eyes, some strong emotion Rafe couldn’t identify. “Are you certain?” His rampant prick swayed back and forth, tempting them both. “I guarantee I’ll give you a fuck you’ll remember for the rest of your life.” He peered at Rafe, obviously judging him. “I’ll do you both, if you like.”

“Sounds fabulous, but I’m afraid I have to refuse.” Dylan favored the man with one of his winning smiles. “I’m sure you’ll find someone else here to take you up on your offer.”

“You’re the one I want.” He stabbed at the air with one finger. “And I’m used to getting what I want.”

“Sorry, not this time,” said Rafe, letting some smugness into his voice.

The stranger ignored him. He reached out to stroke Dylan’s cheek. “If you change your mind, gorgeous, I’ll be in the steam room.” He turned on his heel and strode out, not waiting for a response.

Rafe released a long, slow breath. His muscles were in knots. “What a bastard!” he muttered.

“Oh, I don’t know. He struck me as very civilized. Quite attractive, too.” Dylan grinned up at him. “I’m teasing, silly! I’d never choose him over you.” He pulled Rafe’s mouth to his and gave his a solid kiss.

“Oh, yeah? You looked tempted.” Rafe was still on edge.

“Only a little. Honestly, when he started rimming me, I was so confused and horny I didn’t know what to do. It wasn’t a decision. It just happened.”

“Don’t let it happen again.” Rafe realized he sounded like a bastard himself. He softened his tone. “Please, Dylan. The thought of you with somebody else—I can’t take it. I’m sorry, that’s just the way I feel.”

“No, I’m the one who’s sorry. I should have warned you about the rules and conventions here. I could see you were nervous. We should have found a private room.” They seated themselves on the tiled shelf. Dylan rubbed his cheek against Rafe’s shoulder like a cat marking his territory, then licked his way across Rafe’s chest to his nipple.

EXCERPT

“Wanna grab a coffee now?”

Seeming surprised, Nate took a moment to respond. “If you’re sure? I don’t want you to feel as though you have too.”

Brody nodded. “I’m sure. There’s a new café I saw that must have opened up a while back. On the main strip. Hotshots. You heard of it?”

“Yeah, I know Hotshots,” Nate said with a chuckle. “It’s almost like a morning ritual for me before school to drop in there now. Skye and Brandon definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to coffee.”

“I had been told those two opened up a place. I know them pretty well. Brandon’s older brother Isaac and my brother Emmett are close friends. They work together.” Taking the steps necessary to fall in line with Nate, they cut their way through the forest toward the old highway where he had parked his car before heading off into the preserve. “Both of them were a couple of years ahead of me. You wouldn’t have met them back then since they graduated the year before you started teaching.”

Brody winced at the memories that particular comment brought up and looked out into the forest, at anything that meant he didn’t have to maintain eye contact.

An awkward silence settled on top of them until they finally reached their cars, and while he felt a slight relief in the break of tension by parting ways temporarily, another side loathed to let Nate out of his sight.

“I’ll meet you there,” he offered in parting as he moved towards his car.

“Are you sure you don’t want to head home and shower first?”

“Nah. I’m good.” He shrugged and opened the driver’s side door. Truth be told he was a little afraid that if he didn’t seize this moment now that Nate would change his mind, and that was the last thing Brody wanted. Seeing Nate uncertain, Brody sighed and bit the bullet, getting straight to the heart of it. “It’s just coffee, Nate. No expectations. Just coffee.”

Nate nodded with a small smile as Brody gave him a quick wave before folding into his jeep and slamming the door shut.

****

No expectations?

The roar of the engine startled Nate out of his daydream as Brody sped off down the dirt road that led to the main highway and back into town. He felt the smile on his lips turn into a full-fledged grin, ignoring the hint of panic at the idea of spending time with Brody.

And damn, had he grown up good.

Brody had grown even taller in the last few years, giving him a more masculine appearance now. Gone was the smooth, baby-faced look, replaced by day-old scruff, a chiseled jaw, and biceps big enough that Nate had no doubt the other man could lift him if he was so inclined.

He flushed at that last thought.

Nate noticed another particular feature that was new to Brody. A rather large tattoo snuck out from the edges of his T-shirt, making Nate curious as to what it looked like in full.

“Focus, idiot,” he muttered to himself.

Right, no expectations. Was Brody serious? All there had ever been between them was expectations.

BLURB Running in Circles

Brody Jamerson returned to Woodport sure of three things. It would only be temporary, his future was in the city, and he would avoid his old high school teacher and crush, Nate McCallister, at all costs.

However, with the help of a nosy but well-meaning baker and a hyperactive cafe owner, Brody may find that in a town known for its second chances, he might just stop running in circles long enough to find where he really belongs.
