EXCERPT
Set up – Kara’s wearing a wire. Ted’s parked near the museum, where he can watch her head in to open up.
Kara never glanced in Ted’s direction as she drove by him and into the museum parking lot. Ted watched her get out of the car. First one long leg was exposed past mid thigh. To his pleasure, her skirt had slid upward during her drive from the apartment. The second leg was visible, and then she stood by her car. With her purse slung over her shoulder, she bent forward slightly to smooth out her skirt.
Ted swallowed when her hands lingered over her rump. Was she deliberately teasing him?
“See anything you want, detective?” Her light chuckle reverberated clearly over the speaker in his ear. “Just making sure you’re awake.”
“Damn woman,” Ted growled, wishing she could hear him. Sometimes she could be too brassy, but that was one of many attributes he loved about her.
He saw her dig in her purse for her keys outside the museum main entrance.
“Son of a bitch.”
Ted lurched forward on hearing her epithet.
“It’s happened again. The door is unlocked.”
Ted opened his car door.
“Don’t blow your cover.” Kara’s warning came to him as if she had eyes in the back of her head. “Maybe someone left the alarm system off. This is getting habit forming.”
He watched her gather herself and push the door open. Ted held his breath waiting for some sort of all clear signal. She was right. He shouldn’t show himself just because the door was unlocked
